People really love to complicate life – intricate health regimes, supplements, medications, specific kinds of exercise, carefully curated food, strict schedules. When it comes to our dogs, though, it’s usually pretty simple: they need to get outdoors and move, eat the right nutrients, be mentally stimulated, give and receive affection, have enforced boundaries and behaviors, and sleep when they need/want to sleep. That’s pretty much it. Owning a dog puts that simplicity in perspective, and makes me feel like things don’t need to be as complicated for us humans as we seem to make them.
